For my Data Visualization Project, I have decided to focus on the many difficulties and struggles that Slippery Rock students put up with in terms of parking spaces. With there being such a large amount of us attending here every year and only so many parking spots being available to us, this has undoubtedly been one of the biggest hardships we are forced to deal with. I myself have had multiple experiences regarding it, and personally do not think finding something so simple should be such a challenge, especially for those who have to park farther away from their dorms.
What I plan to do is discuss what I personally feel are the most major problems with this issue, and why the school should care more about handling it. I also plan on interviewing other students and staff members to see what their opinion on the topic is as well and to do an analysis of where the subject stands out the most, such as parking pass distribution, and ticketing fines for violations.
For the data, I will be doing a comparison of the amount of parking spaces that are available between residents, commuters, and staff with a line or bar graph to find out which ones have the most and least. In order to do this, I will be attempting to get in touch with either the University Union or Campus Police to see if they can help me estimate the exact amount of spaces there are.
I would say this is newsworthy mainly because of how big of an issue most people find this topic to be, and due to it focusing on this school only, also has proximity as well. Therefore, I believe that centering on it can be very useful.
