For my 2 hour challenge, I decided to focus on a meeting for the Run Club at SRU, which I am President of. We currently meet three days a week at Patterson Hall on Mondays and Wednesdays at six o' clock, and also on Thursdays at five o' clock.
Counting me, five people total are in charge of the club, consisting of three Presidents, a Treasurer, and a Public Relations Director, being members of what is called the E-Board.
Originally, the club started out as recreational, but earlier this year, we made the decision to change things around and are now a registered club sports team for the IM Leagues organization. By the next semester, we are hoping to start competing in meets and traveling to other schools in the state.
Aside from running, the club also offers events to help the other members become more social with each other, such as going swimming at Moraine State Park, and going to the Arc to workout.
Today's meeting in particular marked our first ever Thursday run, a decision that was just recently made. Besides me, only two other people showed up, an extremely small turnout compared to the usual 10-15 we get on Mondays and Thursdays. However, with this meeting time still being new, it makes sense that not many people would attend.
Me and the other two members did a quick and easy 2 mile run through a trail in the woods located by Rhoades Hall, which led us out to the road by the Giant Eagle shopping center, which we ended up continuing on before eventually heading back to the starting point.
I personally believe that this event is newsworthy because it can introduce new people to the club who may not have heard of it before, as well as help give it more publicity as well. With that said, I can see it having proximity.
